I have been busy learning new things this winter. I have made soap, baked new breads. Started a sour dough starter for bread. I have learned to knit a new tote. I had to make my own pattern because I am too pig headed to follow a regular pattern. I have also made many cards and scrapbook pages for my family. I just forget to take photos of them to share. I hope to do better this year. I am reading a blogging book on how to make my blog a better place. That is one of the goals I have had this year. So far not so good!
I have managed to read my Bible nearly everyday. I do fall behind a bit but catch up right away. I have read it through before but want to do it again as a discipline. I need more study time in the Word. Well I hope this finds you well. I hope you are all staying warm and cozy and spending the winter with your family and friends. I appreciate every one of you. A glimpse of my weekend

Here is our ever dwindling pile of firewood. I made a note to self: order firewood on
Monday! Its a good thing our firewood supplier lives two miles down the road

I was outside taking photos of the kids one night and two of our turkeys are posing on top
of one of our cabins. They go up on the roof to pick the berries off of the flowering crab trees.
The rest of the poultry sit on the ground and grab the berries that fall. It's quite the ingenious system
they have.

The rest of these are photos of various chickens. They are all very friendly and enjoy
posing for their photograph session.

This last photo is one of our Jack o Lanterns that one

of our girls carved. It turned out well and in the darkness

of the night it glowed brightly. It's hard to be spooked by

a smiling pumpkin now isn't' it?

I was editing some wedding photos today and I decided to
crop this photo. Upon reflection on this photo I can't believe how
old I've become. How did this happen?
Years of work, play, family, and friends have made the time
fly by. I feel the same as I did 25 years ago. I don't feel like I've changed.
But when looking at the photo I see my physical appearance has changed.
A few wrinkles and sags that didn't use to be there. A few gray hairs....
But as I look at this photo I am also seeing a woman who would not go
back to those younger years. A woman who is content with who she is.
No need to impress anyone except MYSELF.
My husband of 26 years loves me for who I am on the inside....
Outside appearances change over the years.. I'm know the inside
has changed as well.
I hope my inside(heart) has changed for the better. I hope to have
more patience, tolerance, love, grace, and kindness in my heart. All the
attributes a Christian woman yearns for. Over the years I've had struggles
and did things I can honestly say were a mistake. But as I think back on everything
I feel without these struggles I would not be the person I am today. I have learned
that without mistakes I could not know about forgiveness, without tears I would not
know about the kindness of others, without knowing God I would not understand
the word grace, without my family, friends, and God I would not know how to love.
So as I age on the outside I hope my insides are changing/maturing to be a loving woman who
can God can be proud of and call me his Daughter....

Good morning...
Today I have lots to do since it's nice weather and all the kiddos are in school. First on the agenda is cleaning up our garden and harvesting some onions.
Our garden has not did well this year. One of the problems was thar we went on vacation the first two weeks of July...with no one to tend to the garden. When we returned we had two weeks of horrendous hot, humid weather. I vowed never to leave for vacation in the summer when we have a garden. We have had some harvest but not nearly the amount of produce when it is well tended to.
I picked some apples and plums from our trees and today I hope to make some sauce. And also a few loaves of flax bread....

What's new on the home front

Well Life here at Pine Ridge has been busy this summer. I have been so busy I have not had time to blog. I have taken the time to read your blogs and enjoy the stories and happenings at your home and with your families and animals. I've really enjoyed the hustle of summer. But now it is time to slow down and reflect on it before we begin our fall season.

Our family went on our vacation this year with all our grandkids, children, and foster kiddos. We had a total of 11 who went. We went out to South Dakota and Wyoming. We did a variety of camping and hoteling. We saw the badlands, wall drug, mt. rushmore, bear country usa, reptile gardens, Custer state park, Souix Falls Butterfly house, the falls, Mall of America, and the como park Zoo. Plus more... this old brain can't think of any more at this time. Our family has been out to the Black HIlls many times and it is always a pleasure. The kids who have neer been there thought it was AWESOME! So we had a fun filled two weeks of being together. We loved being away but were all glad to arrive at home in time for Bible camp

Each of the kids spent two weeks at Bible camp. All at different times. Me and two of the older girls stayed at camp and worked in the kitchen for a week. They learned a lot and it was very good experience for them. They were very diligent with their jobs which was washing the pots and pans. They also helped me bake.

We have been busy all summer. In addition to our adoptive daughter (which is final Sept. 13th) We have 4 other children living with us. One 15 year old girl, and 11 year old boy, 9 year old girl and a 5 year old boy. These are the main reason's I have not been able to blog. But now with school starting there will be extra time for ME! So hopefully that means more blogging time..

Well I will attempt to put some photos on here but not sure if I can from this ipad thinga ma gig.... So if you see photos it's a good thing... if not maybe next time...lol

Look at the goodies I found while shopping today at my favorite Antique Mall... Only seven miles from my home. It was so good to see Kari. Her booth is always my favorite. The red and white metal doll kitchen cabinet came from there today as well and the small animal figurines.

THIS WINTER HAS BEEN A TOUGH ONE EVEN FOR THE MOST SEASONED WISCONSINITE. IT IS SNOWING TONIGHT AFTER SNOWING ALL DAY. MORE SNOW ON THE WAY FOR TOMORROW AND MORE THE REST OF THE WEEK. ALL OF MY ANIMALS ARE READY FOR SPRING. WE HAVE LOST ONE SHEEP THIS WINTER AND TWO LLAMAS. NOT SURE WHY EITHER AS ALL SEEMED HEALTHY. IT MAKES ME SAD TO LOSE A ANIMAL AND ESPECIALLY WHEN I DON'T KNOW WHAT WENT WRONG. SAD.

GOOD NEWS. SPRING IS GETTING CLOSER ALL THE TIME. AND WE WILL WELCOME IT WITH OPEN ARMS. I SAT DOWN THIS WEEKEND AND ORDERED ALL MY SEEDS, TREES, GRAPES, AND BERRY BUSHES. THE GREENHOUSE MY DEAR HUSBAND BUILT US LAST YEAR DID A FINE JOB THIS PAST SPRING AND SUMMER. I AM HOPING TO LEARN MORE EACH YEAR TO HELP OUT OUR LITTLE SEEDLINGS. New Years Resolutions

Hi there Blogging friends! I wanted to just say Happy New Year to all of you out there in blog land.
So far ours has been uneventful... but then it's only day 2. I am hoping to make some life changing
goals this year. Have you all made any resolutions? Last year I had two goals. One was to read my
Bible daily plan for a year. Accomplished! The other goal was to enter some of my projects in the
Jackson County fair. I did! Accomplished.
I feel that when I write down and verbalize my goals they are easier to achieve. So this year I am going to have three new goals to work on.
They are:
1. To eat healthier and possibly lose a bit of weight.
2. LEARN to knit socks.
3. Learn how to make our farm more productive.
I plan on holding on to the Daily Bible reading plan from 2010.
I would invite you to post your resolutions. We can all encourage each other to achieve our goals together.

Oh how I miss my summer flowers

I was looking thru all my photos I had taken this year. I came across quite a few that made me sad that summer is behind us now. My flower beds have been put to rest until spring. The leaves that have fallen from the trees replace the lush green grass of summer. My how fast time flies. It seems just like yesterday when I was nursing my sprouting seedlings in my greenhouse and changing the litter for my newly hatched baby chicks. The older I get the faster time seems to fly. I sometimes feel like I am on a merry go round that keeps going faster and faster and I can't make it stop so I can get off. Life has a way of getting away from us. Along with my flowers my body is at rest for the season. No bending down to tend the garden, no lawn to mow, no baby chicks to tend to. I will take the rest for now and renew my mind, body, and spirit. I have been blessed with a loving husband, and family, a beautiful home, a great job, and my health. For this I am thankful. What are you most thankful for this time of year? I would love for anyone who can comment to please do so. I think it would help us to get to know each other better.

Yep Fall is definately here in
Wisconsin. The leaves are changing

and falling right before our eyes. I love the golden colors that fall brings.

The harvest golds, the firey oranges, the crimson reds. God is magnificant

in his creating all of this for us humans to enjoy. Sunday will be apple picking at our local

Cain's Apple Orchard. Complete with a wagon ride out to the apples.

Enjoy this time of year with your family and friends.....

Autumn has arrived in Wisconsin. We can feel it in the air, and see it all around us.
The leaves are changing right before our eyes. Apples are hanging heavy on the branches....
All the animals growing their winter fur/hair/feathers.... they know before we humans know...
God is so good... All his season's are glorious.. but my favorite is fall.... wonderful, colorful, Fall.

My Anniversary Flowers

Here is a photo of my 25th Wedding Anniversary flowers my
sweet husband bought me. They are lovely. Red and yellow roses. Amazing color and they have lasted
almost two weeks. I love that man... more now than ever. It seems so hard for me to believe we have been
together all those years. I look back at our photo collection and am amazed of all we have done together with
our children as well as by ourselves. Life has a way of speeding along at warp speed. I am hoping for another
25 years with this man... Hope we can make it...Have a great weekend everyone...

What a beautiful Morning!
Albeit very warm already. The sun is shining and the weather man say's it's going
to be another scorcher. I am sooooo ready for fall and the cooler weather it brings.
Well this morning I was up at 5 to catch our meat chickens. Today was their date
with the butcher. I felt bad picking them up and placing them in their containers.
But that's why we raise them. They have had a good life. I guess I will never get used to
the idea of killing things.
I hope everyone's summer is going well and you have been keeping cool....

Jackson County Fair 2010

Here are some photos of my entries that won some ribbons. I am so pleased with the results. This is the first time
I have entered the fair or any contest in regards to my crafts. Very inspiring to see all the efforts of all the artists.
We residents of Jackson County Wisconsin need to be very proud that we live in a County that promotes the
Farmers, 4-H, and artists. We have a wonderful new buildings in which to display our entries. It makes me proud!

Well our county fair is this weekend. I entered some photos, wool knit and felted items, and a watercolor. I will post the entries this next week along with any awards I received. I am so amazed that several of them received ribbons. Thanks everyone for your supportive comments and best wishes. Reighlynn and new kittens

We seem to always acquire new animals here on the farm. A few weeks ago my grand daughter
Reighlynn brought over two kittens to live here at Pine Ridge. She felt we needed some kittens since
our old Tom cat died last fast. She is a animal lover just like her Mee Maw... It is so fun to watch her
with them and how she mother's them. Amazing......

Impromtu garden tour

Today was a hot and humid day. Yick..... And most of my day was spent outside in it.
This morning at 8am one our ladies in our community had invited us over to see her gardens... It was lovely.. Cool morning, dew on the grass..... Her flowers and yard are just amazing. It was the highlight of my day. Our Church also put together a float to enter in
the Karner Blue Butterfly festival parade. So I gathered the grandkids and away we went to be in the parade. Before the parade we walked downtown to see the sales that the merchants were having. The parade was at 3pm the hottest part of the day. It was awful.... I am not sure how the kids walked on the hot asphalt with out passing out. It was 90 degrees which to some of you don't seem like much but in Wisconsin that is HOT.... And with the humidity I am not sure of the temp. I felt sick by the time we were leaving to go home. Too much for this old girl.... I am staying inside the rest of the night....
